The Healing Space & Trauma-Recovery Centre

A week-long residential programme in Dharamshala

Set against the Himalayan mountains of Dharamshala, The Healing Space is a week-long residential programme for those who are ready to step away from the noise of daily life — not simply to rest, but to look inward with honest intention and professional support.

This is not a relaxation retreat. It is a structured, facilitated therapeutic experience for people who are carrying something — grief, anxiety, relational wounds, a persistent sense of being stuck — and who are looking for more than a break. Who are looking for a beginning.

Held by mountains, away from the demands of ordinary life, and guided by a team of mental health professionals and allied care professionals, The Healing Space offers the space, the structure, and the human support to make that beginning possible.

What the week holds

Each day is structured around a carefully sequenced programme that works with the mind, the body, and the emotional self simultaneously:

  • REBT-based group sessions for deep psychological healing and belief restructuring
  • Integrative somatic and mind-body practices that bring the body into the healing process and create body awareness
  • Experiential sessions that take learning beyond the room and into the natural world
  • Expressive Arts and Presence Embodying Practices to connect with oneself
  • Meals for all participants, staying at the facility
  • Accommodation in a serene, supportive environment designed for rest and reflection

FAQs

What is The Healing Space not?

The Healing Space is not a substitute for long-term therapy or counselling, and restricts admission to those currently under on-going psychiatric medications, dealing with addictions, clinical conditions, experiencing PTSD, suicidal ideations or ideas of harm, panic attacks or specific phobias. The Healing Space is not a psychiatric facility, a rehabilitation centre, or a crisis intervention service. It is also not a space for those expecting a quick fix, a passive experience, or results without engagement. The programme asks for honest participation, daily commitment, and a genuine willingness to look at difficult material. Participants who are not yet ready for this level of engagement — for any reason — are encouraged to consider individual therapy as a first step.

Whom is The Healing Space for?

This programme is designed for adults who are experiencing emotional distress, relational difficulty, or a persistent sense of being stuck — and who are motivated to understand the deeper roots of that suffering and begin working through it with support.

You may be well-suited to The Healing Space if you are living with or working through any of the following:

  • Emotional and psychological concerns: Anxiety, chronic worry, low mood, persistent sadness, grief and loss, emotional numbness, inner emptiness, low self-worth or self-esteem, shame, guilt, identity confusion, or a pervasive sense of not being enough.
  • Relational concerns: Difficulty in personal relationships, fear of abandonment, patterns of people-pleasing or over-giving, challenges with trust, persistent conflict in family or work relationships, difficulty setting boundaries or saying no, difficulty with assertiveness or self-expression, loneliness or disconnection, or a sense of repeating the same relational patterns across different relationships.
  • Trauma-related concerns: A history of childhood emotional neglect, inconsistent or critical parenting, growing up in a volatile or emotionally unsafe home, experiences of emotional invalidation, complex relational trauma, or the lasting impact of past wounds that feel unresolved and continue to shape present-day life and relationships.
  • Life and meaning concerns: Burnout, chronic stress, loss of meaning or purpose, work-life imbalance, overwhelm from ongoing socio-political events, low motivation, creative or professional stagnation, a sense of living inauthentically or disconnected from your own values.
Is this programme suitable for complex trauma?

Yes — with important qualifications.

The Healing Space is well-suited for individuals carrying complex trauma — particularly the relational, developmental, and attachment-based trauma that arises from prolonged experiences of emotional neglect, invalidation, inconsistent caregiving, boundary violations, or chronic stress within intimate or family relationships.

If you have a history of complex trauma but are currently feeling stable — meaning you are not in acute crisis, not experiencing active flashbacks, not currently severely dissociating, and not under active psychiatric medication for a clinical condition — you are likely suitable for this programme.

Is this programme suitable for relationship difficulties?

Yes. Relational healing is one of the central threads of The Healing Space programme. The programme specifically addresses attachment patterns, fear of conflict, boundary setting, assertiveness, the relational roots of irrational beliefs, and the somatic experience of safety and threat in relationships. Many participants find that their most significant healing in the programme occurs in relational work.

Can I attend if I am currently in individual therapy?

Yes — and we encourage it. The Healing Space works well alongside ongoing individual therapy. We recommend informing your therapist that you are attending the programme so that your individual therapy can support the integration of what emerges during the week.

How do I know if I am ready for this programme?

If you can answer yes to the following questions, you are likely ready:

Are you able to engage in a group setting with others? Are you not currently dependent on psychiatric medication for a serious clinical condition? Are you willing to participate honestly, complete daily exercises, and stay with the process even when it becomes difficult? Do you have a genuine motivation — not pressure from others, but your own — to understand yourself more deeply and begin to change? Do you feel psychologically stable enough to sit with reflections that will take you into an inward healing journey without requiring immediate crisis support?

If you are uncertain, we encourage you to reach out to us directly. A brief conversation with one of our facilitators before registration can help clarify whether The Healing Space is the right fit for you at this point in your journey.

How is The Healing Space different from regular therapy?

Individual therapy is a one-to-one, ongoing relationship with a trained therapist. It offers depth, continuity, and a private space for sustained exploration over time. It is irreplaceable for many forms of healing and is strongly recommended for anyone with complex or longstanding mental health concerns.

The Healing Space offers something different and complementary: an immersive, structured group experience in which healing happens both through the therapeutic content and through the experience of being in an honest, safe relationship with others who are doing the same work. The group itself is a therapeutic container. Being witnessed, witnessing others, discovering that you are not alone in what you carry — these are healing experiences that individual therapy cannot fully replicate.

What if something difficult comes up during the programme that I am not prepared for?

The programme is designed with this possibility in mind. Every day includes structured practices and grounding techniques, and somatic regulation tools — that help participants manage material that surfaces unexpectedly. Facilitators are trained in trauma-informed practice and are present throughout each day.

If something arises that requires more support than the group programme can safely provide, facilitators will discuss this with you individually and may recommend that you continue the current session at a reduced level of engagement, access individual support during or following the programme, or in rare cases where it is in your genuine best interest, pause your participation and return when additional support structures are in place.

Your safety is always the first priority.

Will everything I share be kept confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is one of the foundational agreements of The Healing Space. Everything shared within the group stays within the group. This agreement is held by all participants and facilitators from the first session.

There is one exception, consistent with the ethical obligations of all mental health professionals: confidentiality will be carefully reconsidered if there is a risk of harm to yourself or to others. In this situation, a facilitator will always speak with you directly before any action is taken, wherever it is safe to do so.

I am not sure this programme is right for me. What should I do?

Reach out to us. We would rather have an honest conversation before you register than have you arrive in a space that is not the right fit for where you are right now.
